Even in the chilliest season, our blank canvas hall can be styled into a cosy, glowing space that feels wonderfully warm and welcoming.

This season is made for fairy lights, tea lights, faux candles, lanterns, lamps - lighting is a key design element.

Focusing on the 'Hygge' concept of a warm atmosphere and a sense of comfort.

STATEMENT OR SIMPLICITY

Rustic-Luxe, Enchanted Boho or Winter Wonderland - there are some great themes that can be explored (Especially on Pinterest!)

From elegant gold to forest green, to deep burgundy - you can use rich colours with natural textures such as pine cones, holly sprigs, berries and any seasonal foliage.

Romantic roses the colour of Santa's suit, golden charger plates teamed with golden cutlery, jewel toned velvet ribbons, snowflake projection lighting, floating candles and frosty blue tablescapes - the list could go on!

With thoughtful styling and sensory-rich touches, winter weddings are full of opportunity!

Create a top of the aisle backdrop that ties in with your theming - framing the moment you say 'I Do' .

Create a cosy lounge area with throws, faux furs and comfy seating. This is particularly popular with older guests who might feel the chill more than others.

Bring in scented diffusers or sprays that include smells like pine, cedar, orange or clove and subtly place around your venue, giving your guests that full seasonal experience.

A MEMORABLE SEASON

Winter light is uniquely soft and diffused, thanks to lower sun angles and overcast skies.

You can get some dreamy, glowy portraits without harsh shadows, and romantic backlit images, and if you are lucky, some snowy shots where the ground acts as a natural reflector.

This season creates a cinematic atmosphere.

Schedule photos earlier in the day as winter sunsets come fast... but then the the sparklers can come out, and in the crisp night air you can really get some shots with added magic!

WINTER AT APPLEWOOD

At Applewood Hall, glamping accommodation is available just next door, so even in the winter you can have a space close by to get ready ahead of your special day. Our Glamping Pods and Shepherd's Cabins are heated and offer a cosy retreat away for the quieter winter season.

We have festoon lighting and a fairy light gazebo in our garden which creates romantic lighting for those evening photos.

Being next door to a zoo, regardless of the season, the giraffes still need feeding...so why not have a wedding with a difference, and book an animal experience.

WARMTH WITH STYLE

Winter wedding fashion is all about depth, texture, and intentional layering. The season encourages sumptuous fabrics, sparkling details, and accessories that make a statement in photos and in person. When styled well, winter attire not only keeps the wedding party warm, but elevates the entire visual atmosphere of the day - it means you can be more playful with your attire!

Think long sleeved gowns, capes and faux furs. Boots for walking the grounds for photos, velvet blazers, wool waistcoats and cashmere scarves.

WARM & INVITING MENUS

• Canapes could include brie and cranberry tartlets, mini stollen bites or mince pies.
  
• Have a wedding breakfast menu that includes comfort food such as seasonal soups, roast meats with root vegetables and hot seaside style donuts, or a pudding with custard.
